Reading the Hugos Book Club (OPEN TO THE PUBLIC)

Reading the Hugos Book Club (OPEN TO THE PUBLIC)

A book club in which we read current and potential Hugo Award nominees.

The Hugos are one of the most prestigious awards for Science Fiction and Fantasy media, and one of only a few major awards that are actually voted on by readers! Let's get together to discuss current and potential future Hugo Award nominees and decide whether we would vote for them or not.

The book selection for July is The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow.

Sir Una Everlasting was Dominion’s greatest hero: the orphaned girl who became a knight, who died for queen and country. Her legend lives on in songs and stories, in children’s books and recruiting posters―but her life as it truly happened has been forgotten. Centuries later, Owen Mallory―failed soldier, struggling scholar―falls in love with the tale of Una Everlasting. Her story takes him to war, to the archives―and then into the past itself. Una and Owen are tangled together in time, bound to retell the same story over and over again, no matter what it costs. But that story always ends the same way. If they want to rewrite Una’s legend―if they want to tell a different story--they’ll have to rewrite history itself.

Queer Singles Night

Queer Singles Night

It’s Pride Month! And we’re celebrating it by hosting our First Singles Night! (21+)

Date: June 5th, 7-9PM
Location: Pocket Dimension Bookshoppe

This event is for folks who are tired of dating apps, loud bars, and awkward dating games. You’ll be able to meet fellow queer book-lovers seeking romance and/or friendship. This is a very casual event with a “drop-in/drop-out” style attendance. Feel free to join in or leave whenever you want.

While not necessary, we encourage folks to bring along their favorite book as a conversation starter— and to maybe even swap books with folks you hope to meet again. If you don’t bring a book or forgot one, don’t worry! You’re in a bookshoppe, so you can grab one while you chat!

You can order food and drinks from our neighbors Caverns & Forests, who will deliver your order to you in our Reading Room. (Beer & Wine are available through them as well, but will require you to pick it up from their counter. You are more than welcome to bring your drink back to Pocket Dimension or walk in downtown Argenta with it.)

We hope to facilitate our fellow weirdos and queerdos to create meaningful connections, be it friendship or romantic, in our cozy, magical, little Pocket Dimension.

As always, we ask that folks remain respectful of others identities, space, and journeys. This is intended to be a low-pressure place to form connections with fellow queer book-lovers.

This event is aimed for ages 21+.
